1954: Voltas Limited was born on 6th September 1954, A partnership between Volkart Brothers and Tata Sons with.

1954-1960: Our journey begins with a focus on engineering, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, marketing, and distribution. We quickly establish our presence across diverse industries and begin in-house manufacturing. Our major project, the Tungabhadra Dam is a testament to our commitment to nation-building. We also venture into textiles and bring the first room AC and climatizer to India, forever changing how the nation experiences comfort. The Ashoka Hotel becomes India's first fully air-conditioned hotel, further cementing our reputation for innovation.

Historical 1954-60

1961-1965: Strategic partnerships with Merlin & Gerin (switchgear) and Lakshmi Machine Works (textiles) expand our capabilities. We installed Asia's first water-chilling plant at the Atomic Energy Establishment and entered the mining sector with Mack Dumpers. Our Thane plant became operational. The project engineering division was formed, tackling ambitious projects like the Rihad Dam. We secured the license to manufacture Carrier air conditioning equipment, bringing American cooling technology to India.

Historical 1961-65

1966-1970: The iconic Opal Refrigerator was launched, which later became a household name.We established our International Operations Division, venturing into the global market. Developed India's first indigenous well-drilling machine for drought relief and pioneer marine air-conditioning.The Agro-industrial Products Division is created to support the agricultural sector.

Historical 1966-70

1971-1975: We diversified into HVAC projects for ships, railways, and the dairy sector. Our Materials Handling Division introduced diesel forklift trucks. We air conditioned the Royal Palace of the Sultan of Oman, showcasing our expertise on a global stage. India's first high-speed train was air-conditioned by Voltas. Developed mobile aircraft coolers for Air India and entered the air pollution control market. Our partnership with the National Dairy Development Board led to the development of milk-vending machines, supporting Operation Flood.

Historical 1971-75

1976-1980: We achieved record-breaking projects abroad, including air-conditioning a 1,000-capacity prayer hall in Oman in just four days.We entered the water pollution control market and Air Conditioned Palika Bazaar, one of India’s largest underground shopping centres.

Historical 1976-80

1981-1985: We launched the Omega rough terrain hydraulic crane, expanding our presence in the material handling sector. We began construction of a new refrigerator factory and entered the food sector with Volfarm. We launched India’s first split AC units in Mumbai.

Historical 1981-85

1986-1990: We form a joint venture with PepsiCo and Punjab Agro Industries, venturing into the food and beverage market. We undertook electro-mechanical projects in Saudi Arabia and introduced modern warehousing equipment which began manufacturing of centrifugal compressors with Hitachi.

Historical 1986-90

1991-1995: Introduced advanced vapor absorption chilling machines.Launched washing machines in collaboration with Samsung.Began manufacturing and marketing circulating pumps and agricultural machinery, established the Pumps & Projects division.

Historical 1991-95

1996-2000: Voltas received the Good Corporate Citizen Award, our commitment to ethical practices. Air Conditioned India’s first IT park. Introduced new brands like Voltas Vectra, Verdant, Veritas, and Visionaire. Our AC&R business adopted new technologies, including ozone-friendly screw chillers.The Mining & Construction Equipment Division focuses on open-cast mining and infrastructure development. Formalized our partnership with Hyundai Heavy Industries for construction equipment and secured exclusive rights to market UNIT RIG mining equipment.

Historical 1996-00

2001-2005: Voltas secured a prestigious order for the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Formed joint ventures with international companies like Sermo Montaigui and Uniflair. Partnered with Haier for AC and refrigerator manufacturing and launched the premium Verdant AC brand. Introduced small capacity refrigerators for urban and rural markets and unveiled a new range of water dispensers.

Historical 2001-05

2006-2010: We set up a joint venture in Saudi Arabia and partnered with a Dutch company. Acquired a majority stake in the Fedders venture and teamed up with Universal Comfort Products Ltd. Voltas earns recognition for maximum foreign exchange earned from overseas projects.Launched a new range of air-conditioners and partnered with GMRVF for community development initiatives.

Historical 2006-10

2011-2015: We secured the largest domestic order for a chilled-water plant from Tata Steel. Expanded our water management portfolio to include specialized applications like sewage treatment and river water purification. Acquired 100% stake in Rohini Industrial and Electricals Ltd.

Historical 2011-15

2016-2020: Voltas and Arcelik establish a joint venture to tap into India’s growing consumer durables market. Voltas Beko established its manufacturing facility in Gujarat. Voltas partnered with the Mumbai Police to refurbish Police Balwadis. Inaugurated a Center of Excellence in collaboration with Tata Strive.

Historical 2016-21

2021-Present: Voltas launched its exclusive online web store, www.voltaslounge.com, offering a seamless shopping experience. Ventured into the bio-medical refrigeration and cold chain sector through a partnership with Vestfrost Solutions. Expanded our manufacturing footprint with a new facility in Tamil Nadu. Inaugurated our first Solid Waste Management plant, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability. Voltas celebrates record sales, including 2 million AC units sales in FY23-24.
